Nabina Tharu

Nabina Tharu (Name changed) was a determined young woman from an indigenous group in the Lalitpur District. Despite facing difficult circumstances in her childhood, such as an abusive and alcoholic father and a mother who had remarried and left, Nabina was determined to complete her education. She lived with her maternal grandmother and took on the responsibility of caring for her house and siblings. Despite her father's constant nagging to leave school, Nabina was resolute in continuing her education. With the help of her school teacher and grandmother, Nabina was introduced to SGT, which helped her to continue her education. Nabina would wake up at 3 a.m. finish her domestic chores, take care of her siblings and then go to school. Her sleepless nights and hardships paid off when she passed her grade 10 exams with good marks.

Nabina's determination and hard work did not go unnoticed. She received a scholarship to learn advanced Japanese language from Ashai, a Japanese Organization. She is now in her second year of Bachelor's level and teaches Japanese. Her hard work has paid off as she earns about Rs. 30000 ($300) a month and supports her siblings in their education. She also takes care of her grandparents. Despite all the difficulties she faced in her life, Nabina has become an inspiration to many, proving that with determination. hard work, and a little help, anything is possible.
