IN HONOR OF AMAR
In 2008, with the support of the American Himalayan Foundation, RHEST launched the "In Honor of Amar", to address the need for higher education for girls from the SGT. This innovative initiative focuses on providing support to vulnerable, at-risk girls to complete their high school education in grades 11 and 12. The program targets girls from rural and semi-rural areas of Nepal who have graduated from SGT and provides them with additional resources to learn about health and nutrition, rights, trafficking, and other protection-related topics.
Through the In Honor of Amar, RHEST empowers girls to develop the skills they need to make wise decisions, reducing their risk of being trafficked. The program envisions these girls as change agents who can advocate against harmful practices such as child marriage and bonded labor. The girls in the program are encouraged to join alumnae groups to bring about positive change in their communities.
